Character and Fitness Attorney

As a law student, you are already under pressure with lectures, reading assignments, and exams. Not to mention the impending bar examination. What can add to this already stressful situation are bar admission issues. If the Florida Board of Bar Examiners (FBBE) believes you have issues of commission, it will give them cause to investigate you and make further inquiries.

FBBE Investigation

Issues and inquiries can include the following:

  • Law violations
  • Ethical issues in college or law school
  • Serious financial issues
  • Drug or alcohol issues
  • Issues of omission relating to any required information on your bar application for admission

Schedule your initial, confidential case review today. We are ready to guide your way.

Seeking Bar Admission in Florida?

Whether you have already been contacted by the FBBE about a bar admissions issue or you are concerned about a possible issue, it is critical to seek legal advice now rather than later. Fortunately, at Rothman & Associates, P.A., our lead attorney has extensive experience and knowledge when it comes to bar defense matters. Bar Defense Attorney David B. Rothman is an AV Preeminent® rated, Board-Certified criminal trial attorney with decades of trial experience who was also on the Board of Governors of TFB from 1999 until 2011 and served the last six years as chair or co-chair of the Disciplinary Review Committee. In addition, he is a frequent lecturer on ethics.

Bar Character and Fitness Investigation

Character and fitness can involve anything from criminal conduct and financial history to employment history, litigation, and even a simple traffic ticket. You must disclose everything. Even after you submit your application, you have a continuing obligation to report any future conduct that relates to your character and fitness to practice law, in according with the Rules of the Supreme Court Relating to Admissions to The Bar. You are strongly advised to review these rules and take them very seriously. The board will even compare your application to law school, to see if there are any discrepancies.

Do not fool yourself if you think “they couldn’t possibly find out.” The FBBE scrupulously reviews each law student’s application of admission to the bar. This includes past indiscretions. What is of particular concern is an applicant’s “character and fitness.” Omissions on an application will only lead the board to investigate further.
